This weekend the WWE will host their annual TLC (Tables, Ladders and Chairs) PPV. Now if you follow this site or listen to the show you know I don’t like PPV events based on a match for a few reasons. That being said I still appreciate the TLC match when it’s done right, and the story makes sense. So here at Ring Time we are going to share some of our favorite TLC matches in the 18-year history of the match.
This is the first time this match was on free TV. Chris Jericho and Chris Benoit had just defeated the 2 Man Power Trip (Stone Cold and HHH) on the previous RAW to become tag team champions. Vince McMahon wanted to get back at the team who defeated his favorite superstars and put his son-in-law on the shelf. So, we get the third ever TLC match and the first one ever with four team. All of the usual suspects from the original 2 matches are here. The Dudley Boyz, The Hardy Boyz and Edge and Christian are all here along with Jericho and Benoit.
There was so much talent in this match. Three of the best tag teams of their era. Edge and The Dudley Boyz are already in the Hall of Fame and everyone besides Benoit should get in at some point. Watch these clash of styles melt together for an exciting match.
This match features men who were in the middle of crazy feud over the WWE title. This match took place in the Rated R Superstar’s hometown of Toronto. The stipulation was this was Cena’s last chance at the title from Edge and if he lost Cena would have to go over to SmackDown.
In a match that usually featured tag teams, this was the second time that it was a one on one match. Edge was and probably still is the official master of this match. At this time there had only been 5 TLC matches and Edge had been on the winning side of 3. The match was also in his backyard so how can Cena who was still staking his claim at being the star of his generation.
