Can Cody Rhodes Revive the NWA Title

This past weekend in the Windy City a new NWA World Champion was crowned. After an intense match with Nick Aldis, Cody Rhodes earned his first NWA title. With this win he and his father the legendary Dusty Rhodes are the only ever father and son world champion combo. No other father and son have ever held any major world title in the wrestling business.

It’s no secret that is a far different title from The Dream held it to now as far as notoriety. Ever since WCW walked away from the NWA title it never quite had the pull as it did in the 1970s and 80s. That being said the 10 pounds of gold still holds a special place in the world of professional wrestling. Different organizations such as TNA at times adopted the belt for their world champ until they built themselves up and then separated.

As of recent the belt was the possession of Nick Aldis who was a good champ and did a lot for the belt. Traveling around the world defending the belt and creating major buzz. Now the torch has been passed to Cody Rhodes, who may be the perfect person to help take this title back to glory. The NWA title has always been a traveling title that didn’t really belong to any promotion but to the world of pro wrestling. Cody is signed to ROH but has been a traveling man since he left the WWE and goes all over the world wrestling.

It’s a new era in wrestling and it seems like Cody has a good understanding of it. Helping put together All In and his social media presence the NWA title now has a champ for these high-tech times. Even in his time in the WWE he knew when to transition his character and how to move on to the next thing. When he left the big company in Connecticut it wasn’t popular to go out on your own. He proved that you could thrive without the corporate constrictions of the a publicly traded company, serving as a role model for guys feeling underutilized on WWE TV. Now let’s see what the young Rhodes does with legendary belt.
