Saturday night CM Punk once again broke the internet for the 3rd time in about 10 days. The apparent rumors were true that he was taking meeting with the head of the UFC Dana White because it was announce that Punk has officially signed with the organization. Wrestling fans appeared to be excited that one of their own has found a new career, while hardcore MMA followers showed disdain for fighter with no professional experience being given a shot at best company in the world.
Dana White did take a sport that may have had one of the worst reputations into a mainstream phenomenon by making bad decisions. How will CM Punk do in the world “real fighting”? Nobody knows but he will be a success by just stepping into the octagon. When other wrestlers like The Rock and Batista stepped into the movie world who knew they would be as successful as they are? Remember when Brock Lesnar stepped into the UFC that seemed to work out fine.
At the end of the day the UFC is a business and they are trying to sell pay per views. Guaranteed the presence of a guy who still has arenas chanting his name where he does not perform still will be willing to pluck down 60 dollars to see their guy.
