This year’s Money in the Bank event will be huge for the WWE. A new champion will be crowned in Boston and that champ will have to carry the load for an undetermined amount of time. Now the question remains will this be a transitional champion until Bryan is healthy or does this person get prepared for a long term program that will include the former champ? Either way this year’s event seems to have a lot more at stake than years past. So I decided to take a look at some of the possible scenarios and how they could play out.
The title match at Money in the Bank has eight competitors of which five could have a realistic chance of winning the match. Roman Reigns, Cesaro and Bray Wyatt represent the stars of future. John Cena and Randy Orton are the safe choices and more than likely going to be the winners but wrestling is always full of surprises. Del Rio and Sheamus are more filler than anything. Those two have been beaten down to 50/50 guys but they are former world champs so they have the credibility to be in this match. Then there is Kane who I see basically as The Authority’s enforcer. Somebody who will help Randy Orton along but unstable enough to give us there is an idea of a swerve.
A lot of selling of Roman Reigns as the possible winner is going on but he is not ready to carry a main event program alone. Now has that ever stopped the WWE? They have been known to push a guy too far and then not know what to do with him after it doesn’t work out. See the case of Ryback who went to the main event too early and took too many losses. Reigns is a guy who should get screwed by Kane and continue his issue with The Authority. The idea of a Roman Reigns versus Triple H match at SummerSlam should still be in the works.
Bray Wyatt has the best chance of breaking into world champion club. Bray like Reigns is probably not ready to carry the main event consistently night in and night out as far as wrestling goes. Unlike Roman, Wyatt’s promo skills are top level and he still has his crew to provide a buffer from would be competitors. Wyatt also has a built in issue with the recent champion Bryan. After their issue at the end of last year and Wyatt being the last man to actually defeat Bryan one on one, they could pick up where they left off. If Bryan can be ready by SummerSlam this could be reasonable option for company.
Randy Orton and John Cena both have to be at the top of the list as favorites. If Orton wins I see a program where he and Cena fight for the belt at SummerSlam or even a three way dance if Bryan is healthy. The three way dance could be built as a year in the making rounding out last year’s SummerSlam main event. Maybe even have both Cena and Orton both win the match by each of them grabbing one of the belts. With both men staking claim to the title a unification match part 2 would make sense. Then have the champion who never lost make his claim for both titles and then you have a SummerSlam main event.

One theory being floated around is that Cena will win and take on Brock Lesnar at SummerSlam. This is the kind of big money match that would sell tickets. There has been a photo floating around the internet that features both Cena and Lesnar so that maybe the plan. Right now the WWE has a lot of options at its disposal. The show as it stands only has 4 matches listed on the card but we all know that at least 2 more will be added to the show. Let’s see how they use it to shape their future.
