The WWE recently announced that John Cena suffered an injury during their European tour. There is some speculation that the injury is a work. For the sake of this discussion let’s say it’s real. According to WWE.com it was to his right Achilles tendon, which would be really serious. If it’s fake we will know because he will be in the ring on TV sooner than later. There has been no word of him visiting Dr. Andrews so that maybe a good sign.
If he is out for a couple of months and CM Punk is on hiatus what will the WWE do? Right now the WWE lacks serious star power on the roster. In let’s say 2001 this would have been just a hiccup. The company lost Steve Austin for extended period of time but was safe because there was Rock, Triple H and Kurt Angle to fall back on.
The company could use this opportunity to get some of its up and coming stars some television time and find out what they have. It’s time for a Antonio Cesaro to get a real life push. Let’s see what Seth Rollins can do if The Shield did a full scale takeover of the WWE. The biggest problem is that there is no baby face that can carry the load. There is no one to make an immediate impact as a face. Ryback turning back face would not make sense and a feud with say a Sheamus would seem like somebody is panicking over at Titan Towers.
The superstars of wrestling are aging with no back up plan. Edge has retired and Jericho, Triple are now part timers. The Undertaker is down to Wrestlemania season schedule. With guys like Randy Orton, CM Punk and John Cena getting older who is next in line. It feels like we are in the early-1990s and Shawn Michaels and Bret Hart had not assumed the reigns. Not sure if it’s good news or bad news that there is no WCW around to compete with. At least then they could let buy some established talent from the rival company. Not really an option today. If the fans tune out they probably will not spend more time tuning into TNA but tune out of wrestling altogether.
