This documentary comes outside of the WWE family tree but definitely worth a watch. Smack Em Up follows Fergal Devitt or Prince Devitt in his final tour of New Japan before he comes to the WWE. Fans in the US maybe more familiar with him by his current WWE name Finn Balor. This is an eye-opening look at what the international wrestling scene is like and what it is like prior to hitting that WWE stage.
We learn of Devitt’s rise in the world of professional wrestling how he got form his home land of Ireland and worked his way up in the New Japan Dojo. In the attempt to reach international stardom, there can be some bump roads. This video showcases Balor’s bond with his Bullet Club brothers Karl Anderson and Luke Gallows who are both now WWE superstars also.
One of the most eye-opening parts of this 50-minute piece is the look at the wrestling scene in the underground clubs in Glasgow. Now the description of the film says that it’s a “hard-hitting” look but is more of just a peak but still gives you an idea what guys go through. Some of the dangerous matches that are performed in front of a small group of people while the men and women of the squared circle are chasing a dream. There is even a glimpse of a pre-NXT Aliester Black.
This video is definitely worth your time. It is available currently on Amazon Prime streaming service. Check it out.
