Tough Enough Winner Matt Cappotelli Loses Bout with Brain Cancer

There are not too many people in the wrestling community that are universally liked. Matt Cappotelli was one of those rare people. The co-winner of Tough Enough Season 3 along with John Morrison. After winning the competition he was assigned to Ohio Valley Wrestling (OVW) Territory where he formed a tag team called the “Thrill Seekers” with Johnny Jeter of Spirit Squad fame.

In 2006 Cappotelli won the OVW Heavyweight title and things appeared to be looking up. Ahead of being called up for a spot on the Main Roster, Matt suffered an injury in OVW that resulted in him having to get a CAT scan that discovered a brain tumor. In 2007 he underwent surgery for brain cancer and have the tumor removed. The surgery was thought to be successful and he returned as a trainer in 2013 for Ohio Valley.

In 2017 Matt announced that he was diagnosed with a Grade IV Glioblastoma Multforme. His wife Lindsay announced in May of this year that after consultations with the doctors that they would stop medical treatments for the tumor. On June 29th, 2018 around 3:30am Matt passed away at the age of 38. He was an inspiration to many though his fight and will be remembered for his strength while going though such a tough time.
