The WWE announced yesterday that on July 19th it will be airing Smackdown live on Tuesday nights on the USA Network. An idea that has long been thrown around of going live with the company’s 2nd most important show has come to life. What also makes this announcement special is that the show will have its own unique roster. Yes, ladies and gentlemen the brand extension is back.
The company’s roster is so loaded to the point they realize that they need this to balance things out. This also gives a shot in the arm to the Smackdown brand which kind of has turned into a lesser version of RAW. Now the show will have its own identity again with its own fresh roster. This advent has to be a direct result of the success of NXT which has created enough relevant talent for someone to realize this move was possible.
This is great news for guys like AJ Styles whom I feared was about to become victim of the WWE wash cycle. He was brought in hot and had a main event program and now that it’s over they don’t know what to do with him. Hence him losing to Kevin Owens in a Money In The Bank qualifying match fresh after a strong performance against Roman Reigns at the pay per view. Once creative gets bored with the new toy they tend to cast it aside. If he wasn’t going to be in the MITB match he shouldn’t have been fed to Owens there are enough wrestlers on the roster to take that loss.
The Wyatt Family should also benefit from this new allocation of talent. They can finally get that deep and dedicated story that propels Bray to challenge for the title with his dangerous flock behind him. This group has been the victim to many starts and stops and with a smaller writing team on one show they can get the focus they deserve.
The WWE has long been the number 1 wrestling company in the world and now they are about to add some more distance between them and the competition. They are set to dominate the entire first part of the week. Monday thru Wednesday they are set to have the best wrestling show on television. Remember TNA was trying to get traction on Tuesday nights over on Pop TV. Not sure how many fans are going to skip a live Smackdown to watch a 5 week old TNA show. This one is going to be good for wrestling fans.
