The Ho Train makes a Stop at the Hall of Fame

The Godfather HOF

It may be hard to believe in the PG era that we exist in now that a one of the most popular characters in the business was a pimp who was escorted to the ring by his hoes. The man known has the Godfather was just that guy and now in 2016 he will be entering the WWE Hall of Fame.

Now you may be like me and was shocked to hear the news that the man known in the world as Charles Wright made it into the hall. Then again KoKo B Ware is in the hall also. Then it occurred to me that Wright was significant part of WWE throughout the 1990s. In 1992 he gave us he the popular character of Papa Shango.

Papa Shango

Shango started out with a bang and interrupted the Wrestlemania match between Hulk Hogan and Sid Justice. He then went on to have a feud with the Ultimate Warrior that ended up stalling out because Warrior left the WWE. Shango did get a shot at the WWF Championship against Bret Hart on Saturday’s night Main Event.

After the Shango gimmick ended Wright bounced around and eventually made his way back to the WWE as Kama in 1994. He became a fixture when he became a part of the famed Nation of Domination which also gave us Mark Henry and The Rock. Around 1998 Kama started being known as The Godfather and stood with the Nation when Rock took over and became leader. In July of 98 is when The Godfather debuted the “Hoes” during a tag match with partner Mark Henry.

The Godfather carried on the persona into singles competition where he had a successful run. He would offer his opponents the chance to skip the fight and hang out with the hoes but most decided to wrestle which wasn’t the best ideaThe Godfather was able to capture the Intercontinental Championship in 1999.

The Godfather cleaned up his act for a few years as he joined the ultra-conservative “Right to Censor”. He found success as a part of the group and alongside Bull Buchanon won the WWF Tag Team titles. He then known as the Goodfather and renounced his pimping past. Around 2002 the Godfather and the Hoe Train made its triumphant return. That was also his last year as a full time competitor on the roster. Since then he has remained semi-retired making appearances on special WWE shows and on the independents. In April he will join the official list of Legends as a Hall of Famer.
