It wasn’t too long ago that the Pontiac Silverdome, home of Wrestlemania III was destroyed. Today news broke that another one of the great buildings in Detroit wrestling history will go down in 2017. Joe Louis Arena or as I grew up knowing it as “The Joe” will be replaced by hotel and convention center. This is a casualty of the bankruptcy that the city is going through and them settling with one of its biggest creditors.

Now while the biggest event may have been held at the Dome, the staple for pro wrestling in Detroit has been Joe Louis. The building has seen 9 pay per view events between WCW and the WWF/E. The Undertaker won his first WWF title from Hulk Hogan in 1991 in the same place where the Detroit Red Wings dominate on the ice.

"Survivor

The venue would go on to host 2 more Survivor Series after that a Royal Rumble and Night of Champions. WCW liked The Joe so much they had Halloween Havoc there two years in a row in 1994 and 1995. RAW and Smackdown have both been filmed there numerous times over the years. The building is even scheduled RAW on December 15th of 2014. If you get a chance before 2017 make sure you watch some wrestling at Joe Louis Arena.
