Dallas is the Perfect Place for Freebird Induction

Freebirds 2

Wrestlemania season has officially begun and we even got one star slated for the Hall of Fame already. Sting appears to be the headliner of this class heading into Dallas for Wrestlemania 32 but now it’s time to round out that class. Now it seems like I am writing every year that The Freebirds should be inducted but this year seems like the perfect storm for the team from Badstreet USA.

When the Freebirds did not get inducted in Atlanta, GA during Wrestlemania 27 it appeared that the WWE missed golden opportunity to honor one of the most influential tag teams of all time. This miss maybe a set up for an even better opportunity. The legend of Michael Hayes, Terry Gordy and Buddy Roberts grew to international fame from their time in Dallas working in World Class Championship Wrestling.

Freebirds and Von Erichs

Serving as the key antagonist to the Von Erich family the Freebirds were as hot as anybody had ever been. The rivalry between the two camps is one of the most famous in the history of professional wrestling. The Dallas area fans grew up watching these guys and it would be fitting for them to share this honor with the local crowd.

The Freebirds are responsible for bringing Rock N Roll entrance music to business. Led by the fast talking Michael Hayes the team brought an energy to the arena that the fans had not seen before. Flanked by their hammer Terry Bam Bam Gordy and the heat seeker Buddy Roberts the team had the perfect mix of talent.

The most notable contribution to the business the “Freebird Rule”. Allowing more than two guys to be acknowledged as the tag team champions. Any member of the group can defend the belts at any time. The rule has been used by Demolition, The Spirit Squad and most recently by current champs The New Day. Michael still currently works in the WWE helping develop new talent and it would fitting have his crew finally inducted in the hall of fame.
