Somethings are Bigger Than Wrestling

Wrestling Legacies

During the course of this summer the WWE has been forced to remove some profiles from its Hall of Fame page due to the fact that these men have shamed their legacies. These swift actions have seemed to upset some wrestling fans. Not only cleaning out current Hall of Famers but the fact that some wrestlers will never get in based on some of their actions and the company has concluded that they do not want to associate themselves with that particular performer anymore. As much as this angers fans and hurts them that their favorite wrestler is now a forgotten footnote, these actions are very necessary.

The WWE is publically traded company on the stock market and not just a wrestling territory anymore. Their intention is to reach far beyond just wrestling fans and be a worldwide entertainment entity. The strength of that strategy is one that they are a organization suitable for children to be a part of and be able to look up to their superstars. The family friendly Disney like image cannot stand for anything less than a perception that the company’s employees live at high standard. It is understood that everyone makes mistakes but the allegation of something such as murder could destroy that idea.

The WWE is not trying to erase history and most of the stuff fans are looking for can still be found on the network. The key is that they cannot actively promote people who are seen as being of low moral character. There also has to be standard set forth that no matter what your past achievements maybe there are consequences for your actions. Nostalgic fans always have YouTube and various forms of technology to see whatever you want. At the end of the day some things are bigger than a wrestling match.
