New Japan Begins G1 Climax

G1 Climax 2015

This weekend New Japan Pro Wrestling will begin its 2nd biggest event of the year. If the road to Wrestlemania begins with the Royal Rumble then the G1 Climax is the beginning of the season for Wrestle Kingdom. The Round Robin tournament will start on July 20th and complete on August 19th and will be the longest G1 in the history of the promotion.

This year’s tournament will be a little different as it will be widely available to fans in the United States via NJPW World. The company has already declared that this year they will embark on a big international expansion that will include a talent exchange with organizations from around the world. The exchange will involve Ring of Honor, Global Force Wrestling, CMLL, Revolution Pro, NWA and WXW.

You can see by the lineup for this year’s G1 that there is a lot of international influence along with all of the New Japan heavy hitters.

The round robin tournament will be scored on a point system from the A and B blocks and the winners of each block will face off in the final. The scoring system breaks down like this, each wrestler gets 2 points for a win, 1 point for draw and 0 for a loss. Each block should provide some very interesting and entertaining matches. This event will take place over 19 shows and finals will be at the legendary Ryōgoku Kokugikan. The world should be ready for some of the best pro wrestling you can see.
